World's Best Players to Use Electronic Review at Tennis Masters Cup

Qi Zhong Tennis Center, Shanghai

Mercedes-Benz to sponsor official review for men's circuit finale

The Tennis Masters Cup Shanghai announced that the game’s elite singles players and doubles teams will be able to challenge line decisions for the first time at the men’s circuit season-ending championship through the use of electronic line calling technology.

Mercedes-Benz, Principal Sponsor of the Tennis Masters Cup, will sponsor the official review sure to be a hit with fans in Shanghai. The line calling system allows fans to see what the off-court umpire uses for review and encourage players to challenge calls.

The review system has been enthusiastically received world-wide in 2006 by fans, players and broadcasters after first introduced at the ATP Masters Series event in Miami in March. The system also was used throughout the summer US Open Series before moving to ATP tournaments in Beijing, Moscow and the ATP Masters Series tournaments Mutua Madrilena Masters Madrid and next week at the BNP Paribas Masters in Paris.

“Qi Zhong Stadium is one of the world’s most remarkable tennis arenas and provides a unique and exciting environment for both players and fans,” said Brad Drewett, Tennis Masters Cup Shanghai Tournament Director. “Adding the electronic line calling review will only heighten everyone’s experience at the event.”

The Mercedes-Benz Official Review at the Tennis Masters Cup will utilize the same limited review system successfully utilized at all previous tournaments:

· Each player will receive two challenges per set to review line calls

· If the player is correct with a challenge, then the player retains the same number of challenges

· If the player is incorrect with a challenge, then one of the challenges is lost

· During a tie-break in any set, each player will receive one additional challenge
