Roger Federer was presented with the INDESIT ATP 2006 Race trophy by Marco J. Rota, marketing director of the Indesit company, at the Qi Zhong Stadium - home to Tennis Masters Cup Shanghai on Monday.
It marks the third consecutive season the Swiss player has finished the year as the ATP World No. 1.
At the presentation ceremony, Rota said: "Tennis is one of the best expressions of the Indesit spirit, the young, dynamic, international brand of Indesit Company.
"It is therefore an honor for us to be able to present Roger Federer with the INDESIT ATP 2006 Race trophy. Roger is not only an authentic talent and true champion on the tennis court, he is also a symbol of great generosity outside the sphere of sport."
Federer, who was nominated a UNICEF ambassador earlier this year, signed a special edition of the Graffiti refrigerator, bearing a huge tennis racket.
In the months to come, this work of art, expressly produced by Indesit for the Tennis Masters Cup Shanghai, will be auctioned on eBay. The proceeds of the auction will be added to a further donation by Indesit, equal to ten times the points accumulated by the champion during this year, and will be donated to the tennis player’s own charity.
The Roger Federer Foundation was founded in 2003, together with IMBEWU (a Swiss-South-African organization), has sponsored an important aid project to improve the social conditions of children in the New Brighton area, one of the poorest areas of Port Elizabeth in South Africa.
Specifically, the foundation follows the growth of 30 children allowing them to receive a scholastic education and at least two meals a day.
This venture is part of a wider project that also envisages the development of IMBEWU structures on site as a small but important step towards a better world for children.
