Rafael Nadal

ATP 2007 Race leader Rafael Nadal was the first player to qualify for Tennis Masters Cup Shanghai in 2007.

Nadal extended his clay-court winning streak to an Open Era record 81 matches before losing to Roger Federer at ATP Masters Series Hamburg in May.

He entrenched himself as one of the game's all-time greatest clay court players after defeating Roger Federer 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 to win a third consecutive Roland Garros title. Nadal joined Bjorn Borg as the only players to win three straight titles since Roland Garros was opened to players of all nations in 1925.

The Spaniard also defended back-to-back ATP Masters Series titles in Monte-Carlo and Rome, with other ATP title coming Masters Series Indian Wells, Barcelona and Stuttgart.

At 19 years, 1 month and 22 days, Nadal became the third teenager in history (since 1973) to reach No. 2 in the ATP Entry Ranking on July 25, 2005. He joined Boris Becker (18 years, 9 mos., 17 days) and Bjorn Borg (18 years, 10 mos., 2 days) as the only teenagers to rank No. 2.

In 2005 he became the youngest qualifier for the Tennis Masters Cup since Andrei Medvedev in 1993, but withdrew due to injury.
