Hewitt Wins on Home Soil

Champion: Lleyton Hewitt.
Lleyton Hewitt, the newly crowned year-end No. 1, capped his outstanding season with a final coup - the coveted Tennis Masters Cup title. The 20-year-old, who had been on a tear all week in Sydney, crushed Frenchman Sebastien Grosjean 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 in Sunday's final to become the first Australian to ever win the season-ending championship.
The US Open champ already has earned the distinction as the youngest-ever year-end No. 1, and the first Australian to achieve the year-end top ranking, but he continued to make history. He's now also the first undefeated champion at a year-end event since Germany's Michael Stich won the 1993 ATP Tour World Championship in Frankfurt (not including results at the Grand Slam Cup.)
"It feels great," Hewitt said after the match. "It's been a dream two months for me, ever since I won the US Open. This really does top off a great year for me."
